VORTEX PRESSURE REGULATION STATION
FARM TAP (VPRS-FARM TAP)
Vortex Pressure Regulation Station - Farm Tap installations allow for complete elimination of conventional pressure regulators for relatively small pressure and flow requirements. Multiple runs may be used for large flow rates.
Overview
A Vortex Pressure Regulation Station - Farm Tap eliminates the need for high pressure gas preheat upstream of its pressure reduction. The core of the technology is a Vortex Pressure Reducer (VPR) configured as a Self-Heating Single Path Vortex Tube (SPVT).
The pipeline gas undergoes non-freeze pressure reduction in the VPR. The decompressed gas fills a downstream Buffer Receiver (BR). Since the delivery gas flow is much greater than consumption of pressure regulated gas, the pressure in BR rises until it equalizes with an ‘OFF’ pressure setpoint of the upstream valve. Accordingly, the ‘On/Off’ valve will be open when pressure in the BR drops to the specified ‘ON’ value.
Most commonly, the pressure regulated gas accumulated in a BP assumes the ambient air temperature (e.g. negates the JT value of decompressed gas). A moderate post-heat may be required here at low ambient air temperatures.
Advantages
- Self-Heating device that needs no external heating
- No conventional pressure regulators are required
- Generates heat as an outcome of the routine gas pressure reduction
- Steady non-freeze performance regardless of the gas quality
- No moving parts
- No maintenance
